Firstly, clad bifolding doors are a great choice if you require different colours on the outside and inside. You can easily remove the cladding to repaint, or switch wood species entirely. The external frame is low-maintenance and easy to clean.
Secondly, aluminium is incredibly tough and durable. If you require a folding door that is tougher than wood, aluminium is the choice for you. In areas which are exposed to high levels of sunlight aluminium does not fade or weather. With a clad sliding door, you can have the appearance of wood inside, but the strength and durability of aluminium, without having to make compromises deciding between the two.
Profile The SF55c benefits from the strength and stability provided by the aluminium and combines it with the natural charm and beauty of timber to the inside, providing the very best of both worlds with a choice of timber profile shape to suit. All timber is sourced from sustainable forests: the standard timbers are Meranti (hardwood) and Nordic pine (knot free-softwood), while other timbers such as American White Oak are available by special order.
Dimensions Sunflex recommend panel widths do not exceed 1100mm and a maximum height of 2800mm. Heights greater than this can be achieved; please contact our technical department for advice. The SF55C Timber Clad folding door system is designed for more typical opening configurations with up to 6 panels in any one direction.
Operating system The SF55C is a bottom running timber clad folding door system, consisting of wheels which are manufactured from tough glass fibre reinforced polyamide set around a maintenance-free sealed bearing, giving quiet smooth operation.

Some clad bifold doors have visible nailed on glazing beads and appear very poorly put together. They don't come with the option of easily being able to clip off the cladding to change it. In fact, most clad systems are wooden with aluminium clad. They are bulky, with gaps which allow condensation to build up, which can lead to mould and rot. The aluminium cladding is clipped on, resulting in a lower security. By combining two techonologies we can offer you the unique AluClad bfiolding system. Aluminium and timber combined offers a strong, durable and maintenance free finish outside while still providing the warmth and character that timber brings inside.
The aluminium-timber construction protects wood from environmental influences such as wind, rain and UV rays. The main advantage this system has, that it offers the insulating qualities of timber with the weather resistance of aluminium to create maintenance free Grade A thermally efficient structure.
AluClad bifolds can be made in any configuration either opening outwards or inwards depending on the space and the location of the opening.
Pull handles When the folding door system opens externally the intermediate panels are fitted with a moulded 'D' shaped handle, this sits neatly within the gasket line enabling easy closure of the panels against the compression top and bottom gasket seal.
Furniture Handles and hinges are made of cast alloy, handles are sprung-loaded and flush-fitted to enable door panels to stack flat when fully opened. Optional lever handles are available upon request for single access door or lead doors.
Ventilation There are two chTrickle vents of either 2500mm2 or 5000mm2 can also be incorporated with the addition of a 40mm add-on head profile to satisfy building regulations.
Discreet finger safe gaskets The gaskets (consisting of long-lasting EPDM) between the door panels and side jambs are continuous and have a unique chamfered design. This means that they interlock and form a highly efficient double seal.
Track options There are two choices of track on our aluminium folding doors; a standard stepped track for a severe weather rated system or an aluminium flush track recessed into the floor. This provides a level walkthrough with an uninterrupted floor finish.
Security Where there are an odd number of panels, a five-lever profile cylinder is fitted to the end lead door or to the first opening pair in an even number of panels. Meeting the requirements of the Association of British Insurers.
